The Pavilion.
Oh the memories of many, many brilliant gigs back in the 70s & 80s. In fact, so many I am in the process of putting together a book entitled The Pavilion Rock Years. I am keen to hear from anyone with memories of gigs/concerts they attended there between 1966 and 2002 (I certainly wasn't at every one!). If you have any anecdotes, good, bad, funny stories to tell, please don't hesitate to contact me at perpar75@btinternet.com
Many thanks,
Neil.

RE: RE: The Pavilion.
Hi Neil
I've only just come across this posting.......only 16 months late!
How's that book on the Pavilion Rock Years coming along?
I was at several gigs at The Pavilion during the late '60's/early 70's, beginning with Juniors Eyes and Stray (double bill), Love Sculpture (with Dave Edmunds playing their only hit single 'Sabre Dance' very bady!) and Blossom Toes in 1969. Also in 1969 were Quintessence and the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band.
I saw Yes (the Yes album line up of Anderson, Bruford, Howe, Squire and Kay)who played there in April 1971 and were filmed by a BBC film crew, I seem to recall. Genesis (supported by Lindisfarne) with Peter Gabriel played in November 1971. Great show with the classic costume changes of Gabriel and Steve Hackett on guitar. The view from the Pavilion's gallery was amazing, allowing a superb vista for the band's light show.
Manfred Mann's Earthband appeared there in March 1976.
On 29th July 1976, Eric Clapton played at a private gig. I managed to get a ticket from Mick Jones, the then-manager for Entertainments at Dacorum District Council. Clapton had approached the venue, as a 'secret' warm up to his Crystal Palace Bowl Garden Party to be held the next day. Clapton appeared thin, emaciated and gave a lack-lustre performance, leaving a lot of his guitar riffs to George Terry. The line up also included Carl Radle (bass), Dick Sims (keyboards), Jamie Oldaker (drums), Sergio Pastora Rodriguez (percussion), Yvonne Elliman and Marcy Levy (backing vocals).
Nothing new and probably nothing you already have but happy to expand.
Cheers
Steve
