Heswall Childrens Hospital Circa 1979 - 1980
I was in this hospital for a couple of years when I was around 4 years old! (Hence the vagueness.) I recall the wards (dorms) and I recall bouncing from one bed to another along the entire length of the ward (until we were stopped, that is!), the 'day school', and I recall a long slide down the right side of the garden that had numerous thorny branches next to it which would catch you if you were not careful! I also recall playing in a boat of some kind in the grounds - I remember the boat was in a sand pit - it seemed huge, but I was only young! I don't remember the names of the staff nor most of the other kids, but I do recall Stewart - a boy a little older than me who also was a neighbour from Brookdale Road in Liverpool. (Stewart, if you ever read this, get in touch if you remember me?) I would love to see any old photos from this area - especially the gardens!

Hi Nikki, I'm almost sure you were on my ward. Hugh Owen Thomas (H.O.T.). I was there January 1980-June 1980. I have such happy memories, I didn't want to leave. I remember fo much, I was 10 at the time. I remember Sister Chubb (Ward Sister), Nurse McBride, Wally and James the porters, all the night staff, Nurse Alexander and Nurse Williams. I remember we had to go to school every day. My teacher's name was Mrs Hawkins. I also recall going to see a submarine, and playing in the grounds, running down the hill to the forest at the back. I would love to see some photos of the hospital entrance and hear from anyone else who was there at that time.

I was there, names I recall are little Ddavid Jones, Donna, she could be a handful, Caroline, Nurse Westy. Sister Chubb was a fantasic person. The submarine was HMS 'Opportune'. Wwe were on Granada reports. I still have my badge. Phill Ward and his friend David were from over the way. I'm sure I recall David when he fell and broke his leg at the back of the ground. I think about Heswall a lot and would love to catch up with the friends we left behind. x

Hi, I was in Heswall 1979-80 on Anne White Ward. Does anyone know the name of the Scottish lady teacher?
