Death Of My Grandfather
My Grandfather William Lawson died at a place described on his death certificate as The Hostel, High Street, Bentham. Grandfather was from Liverpool this was 7th May 1941 can anyone tell me what was the hostel, was it a pub ? or a place to stay.

Wenning Hotel
My father was evacuated to Bentham during WW2. He had relatives who owned the Wenning Hotel. His name was Peter Townson. Does anyone have any memories of him? Long shot I know!

My Grandparents
My grandparents were George an d Molly postlethwaite they lived in the square up at the top of the main road which has now got modern homes built their, George was a cobbler by trade. They had 3 children James,( Jim.) kitty and Jenny Molly was a wearing I think does any one remember them?

Granddad Richard And Nana Ada Roseneath
My name is Chris Procter, son of Tom and Joyce Procter of Mount Pleasant, High Bentham. My Grandparents, Richard and Ada lived at Roseneath, Goodenber Road. I remember playing in Goodenber Road on many occasions that i visited and stayed at their house. I remember playing in the loft that had a rocking horse and a Second World War Flying hat (leather). William Dawson
William Dawson (1833-1901) was a shoemaker in Bentham and lived with his wife Isabella (1842-1914) for much of the time on Main Street. Does anyone know of any descendants or relatives who still live in the area or what may have happened to the shoemakers' premises? Karl

Shopping In Bentham In The 1940s
I have been collecting information about the shops in Bentham during the 1940s and early 1950s, I can recall a lot of them but have been trying to remember the name of the pub which, if one came up Station Road and turned right by the Black Bull pub ,was along main street going towards the Auction and the School, I cannot remember what it was called so can anyone help me there ? Bentham
I am trying to find information regards my great grandparents, whose surname was Bentham. They lived in the village and I am wondering whether any distant relatives are still living there.

Born In Bentham In 1946
I was born in High Bentham in 1946 even though my mum by then was living in Manchester. She insisted in returning home to have me and a year later my sister to make sure we were Yorkshire lasses, I was born in the front bedroom of 1 Station Road next to Angus's. My mum's maiden name was Winnie Williams and her mum was Clara and her dad Billy Williams. Her dad had 2 sisters, Suey and Ellen, and a brother ...see more

Plough Inn
The Plough Inn, in High Bentham was bought by great grandfather Harold Slinger in the early 1900s. He then refurbished it in to two cottages. Harold Slinger was also the registrar for birth deaths and marriages as I recall. After his death my Gran and Granddad continued to live there and my uncle and aunt lived next door. Plough Inn, High Bentham
This is not really a memory - I am tring to find out information about the Plough Inn, Main Street, High Bentham. I now live at this address. The inn has been split into two cottages but I would love to know more about it.
