1891 Census
My uncle's grandmother, Mary Solan, is recorded as living at 99 High Legh with six children and two lodgers. Does the address refer to a street of the same name as the village? Are there any pictures that would show this address?

RE: RE: 1891 Census
Hi there
I know where they lived! There is a little cottage at the end of our lane, Hobbs Hill Cottage, where the Solan family lived.
From memory I think they came from Ireland and looking through the census forms from 1861-1891, they lost several children at an early age.
If you would like a pic of the cottage as it looks now - let me know and I'll send you a digital one.
It's in a very rural position - overlooking agricultural land and has had, at some point, extensions on both ends of the cottage.
In another old cottage in High Legh, the children would sleep on wooden 'bunks' on the landing as usually there were only 2 rooms upstairs.
Hope that helps .... look forward to hearing from you.
