Highnam Property Gardens And Admiral Martin George Guise,Of The Guise Family.
I understand that in Highnam there is a large property transformed into beautiful gardens called Highnam Court. This property belonged to the Baronets of Guise until a century ago or more. They are still owners of Elmore Court in Gloucestershire since the 13th century. I am a Peruvian citizen, from Lima, Peru, and my great-great-grandfather was Admiral Martin George Guise, who was the first Commander of the Peruvian Navy during the Wars of Independence from Spain. He enrolled at age 12 in the Royal Navy where he ended up being a distinguished officer during the Napoleonic Wars. After those wars ended, he left the Royal Navy and enrolled under Lord Cochrane in the Chilean Navy, in the fleets that carried General Jose de San Martin to Peru. General San Martin, after proclaiming the Independance of Peru, created the Peruvian Navy under the command of Admiral Martin George Guise who continued in the Naval aspects of Peru's independence wars until they ended. My great-great-grandfather Admiral of Peru, Martin George Guise, of the Guise family of Elmore Court and Highnam, was baptised in Churcham Vicarage. Can somebody give me the address of Churcham Vicarage so I can write a letter to the Vicar asking him for information about the Baptism document of Martin George Guise? Thank you in advence. Newent And Pickelnash School
I'd have to work out the date, but around there. I moved to Newent from Wales and used to live in a nice little house just down from the Black Dog on the corner of Church Street, if anyone has photos before it was knocked down.
I had some good friends in the Picklenash School, they probably won't remember me, the Welsh boy, Susan Kettle, Ginette Winterbottom but a few. Hope I didn't get the spelling wrong. I was only there a few years before moving back to Wales.
The family who used to live next door, their name slips my memory at the moment, I'm getting over a stroke. I think the father was on the refuge waggon.
I would be interested in what you are all doing these days.

G, g, g, Grandfather Lived in Corse
I'm trying to trace my family tree and found that my g,g,g,grandfather Henry Travill, born 1829, lived in Corse up to 1886. Going back to my g,g,g,g, grandmother Ann Fisher, known as Nancy, was born 1786 and g,g,g,g, grandfather Benjamin Travel born 1781.

Blacksmiths Corner
I am currently researching my family history in Sandhurstnand and I am hoping someone might have some record of the smithy in the village. From census returns I know my family lived at the blacksmiths shop until the mid 1860s. A number of the family are buried in St Lawrence's churchyard. The Hobbs family were also blacksmiths at Twigworth smithy up until 1907 when my grandfather moved away.
Elmore Court: The Bronets of Guise
Elmore Court is a beautiful manor and ancient house with many acres of property which belonged to the Baronets of Elmore, the Guise family, since the 13th century. My great-great-grandfather, Martin George Guise, Admiral and firstCommander of the Peruvian Navy, was born at Elmore Court or at Highnam and baptised at Churcham Vicarage. He enrolled in the British Royal Navy at an early age and ascended in rank during the Napoleonic Wars. When peace came to Europe he left the Royal Navy and enrolled in the Chilean war fleet under Lord Cochrane, which carried a whole Liberation Army to the Peruvian costas to fight the Wars of Independence against Spain. General Jose de san Martin, the general in chief, created the Peruvian Navy, after declaring the Independance of Peru. The first Commander of the Peruvian Navy was then Admiral Penned Marin George Guise, who some years later, in 1829, died of a gun shot in the siege of the port of Guayaquil. 'Sabrina'.
I am certain the steamer is 'Sabrina' built in 1870 and was the steam inspection launch of the Directors and Engineer of the Gloucester and Berkeley Ship Canal, Gloucester. In 1912 'Sabrina' was owned by the Dock Company and did not leave their service until 1942. 'Sabrina' is still in regular use now on the River Thames and still in steam.
