Honeyhanger Hotel

A Memory of Hindhead.

My father (a now retired Baptist Minister) left his church in Godalming in 1970 and we moved to Hindhead for a couple of years. We lived in a flat in Honeyhanger, formerly a hotel but by then a large house conveted to flats. It was then still owned by Mrs Mary Aubrey-Moore (whose Baprist minister husband had died by then) and we got the flat as they were friends of my father. It was a lovely place to live, with a shortcut through the grounds to Polecat Lane and Shottermill.

Two years later we moved to Hove, as my father led a church in brighton. After leafy Surrey, Brighton & Hove was quite a culture shock!

I don't know what became of Honeyhanger, as Mrs Aubrey-Moore passed away a couple of years ago, althiugh she sold the place some years before. She was nearly 100 when she died, but then both my parents are now 93!
