Hockley, Broad Parade
I recognise this picture from a postcard, as the house where my family used to live is also in the picture.
I can remember the shops in those days - Eve's the hairdresser, Thomas the Butcher, Sutherlands the sweetshop/newsagent, Broughton the chemist, Green Stores/Key Markets and the Off Licence.

I also remember the house Liz refers to - my auntie owned it before Liz's parents. It was a smallholding then with land that now has a housing estate and the Greensward school/college/academy on it.

Re the house in this picture, I have just sent a message to Ronald Pluck (whose name it was good to see) as it was my family's house and my parents had it built in the early 1950s. Ronald's aunt used to live in a house further along the road called 'The Elms'.

Re the house in this picture, I have just sent a message to Ronald Pluck (whose name it was good to see) as it WAS my family's house and my parents had it built in the early 1950s, when the bungalow that we lived in next door became too small for all of us (6 children). Ronald's aunt used to live in a house further along the road called 'The Elms'.
