Although the 16th-century buildings have little altered, today's view is quite different, for the garden area is now planted with rose beds set amidst manicured lawns. The de Hoghtons have been here since the Conquest, and the house has had several noteworthy visitors in its time. James I famously knighted 'Sir Loin of Beef' here in 1617 and William Shakespeare performed in the hall.

I am trying to find old photographs of my house which is the former school in Hoghton...Holy Trinity.The school was converted to a house in the early Eighties.I would love to see how the building looked as a school...perhaps if you were a pupil or lived in the village you might have some old snaps tucked away in a cupboard? I would really love to see them.Many thanks.
I spent many a Saturday, walking the woods of the tower, beating sticks and making noise. After a good 8 hours trudging up and down slopes and in the mud, they feed us a bowl of bad stew and beer. There was always a joke about who got the only piece of meat. I was the lucky recipient once, had to eat it quick tho.
