The Half Moon Public House

This is not one of my memories but this is one of my father's, it was lovely to be told this and every time I pass this place it brings back my family history. My father and all 15 children were born in Horning and my father James Owen still lives there. Many years ago the house that is on the main road to Ludham which is still called the Half Moon was a public house which was run by my great-grandparents and my nanny (my father's mum) was a young girl at the time. I knew that my grandad came from Kent but never new how they met, my grandad was in the Merchant Navy and used the public house and this is how their relationship started.

RE: RE: The Half Moon Public House

Teresa, the Half Moon was run by my ancestors also - firstly the Wrights and then the Slaughters, do let me know if we have a link - I should imagine there is one somewhere!

RE: RE: The Half Moon Public House

Jane, I have looked into more history of The Half Moon pub and have interesting news. Sophia Slaughter who ran the pub from 1900-1916 is possibly my great-great-great-grandmother. I am still trying to contact family to confirm this and I will let you know. After this Edward Jay ran the pub in 1922, he was my great-great-grandfather and it was his daughter (my Nanny) who married Edward Owen who was in the Merchant Navy, they were the parents to my father James Owen. There could be a link to us and I still live close to Horning, if you don't mind me asking, where are you? Look forward to hearing from you.
