Happy Days in Hotwells
I was born at 5 Rosemount Terrace, Hotwells, no longer there. I remember Harry Eavans, the paper shop, all the shops. The oub, the spring gardens, the flying fox. Oh happy days. Clifton National School, that was many years ago. I am 82 years old. My name was Pat Smith, now Pat Blake. I wish I could find a DVD of old Bristol.

RE: RE: Happy Days in Hotwells
Hello Pat, My great-grandparents lived in Hotwells. My grandmother was born there, at a place called Western Square, also now gone. Do you remember it at all? I'm told it had 2 pubs, one called The Star, and The Pilot, and a very small sweet shop. I will try to look out for a DVD of old Bristol, thanks, Carol.

Hi Carol,
It was so good to hear from Hotwells, I do remember the square, I went to Trinity School, just around the corner from the little sweet shop!! I do not remember the pubs, I know my dad used the Pilot, my mum and dad lived in Ambose Road. Kate and Jim Smith. My dad was very well kownn in Hotwells. How it has changed. It is two years since I have been back. I know many names of peple. My name was Smith but I married Gordon Blake 64 years ago in Christ Church, Clifton, and we are still together. He is 88, I am 82. Bye for now. Pat Blake.

Hi again Pat, lovely to hear from you. Well, my great-grandparents were Ellen Simms and Charles Simms, she had 4 children I think, one being my grandmother, Sarah Mabel. She married a man called Bill Letton, had 5 children. They also lived a while in Western Square, they were Hilda, Barb, Bill, and my mother, Gladys. Hilda and Barb are now 79, 84. Barb still talks a lot about the Square, would you know if there are any photos of it, I'm off to see if my aunts remember your family, I do hope so. Be well, Carol.
ps - as far as I know my grandma lived when married in Western Square, with children, for a few years.
