Bridge Road

A Memory of Hounslow.

We use to live at number 19 Bridge Road. My earliest memory is watching a parrot flying across Greenham's field behind the prefab. We never has a bathroom only a out side loo. Our bath night was on a sunday. A old tin bath infront of the cooker, this had the oven turned on and the door open for warmth, and the wooden clothes horse behind the bath with towels on to stop any draught. I was the youngest of 4 girls. We had such fun in the front garden because it was square in shape so we played rounds. In summer we went into Greenham's field and played cricket with dad and mum watched on. Such good and happy times. We moved to Barrack Road in 1958 when I was 4. We swapped with Mr and Mrs Theobold. I remember my sisters telling me there was a boggy man upstairs and I had to go first... The old couple had taken every light bulb out of the house so I had a candle to carry. But dad kept me down stairs and sent them up. Hounslow heath in autumn was our best time ever. We would pick blackberries as we walked to the back of the heath to play in the river Crane. Then pick more on the way home again to make jam with mum.
