Hounslow

A Memory of Hounslow.

Does anyone remember the dance hall over Burtons the tailors spent many an evening there in the early 50s I was working at Firestones on the Great West Road then. Went to Bulstrode school how I hated school couldnt wait to leave. Met My late husband in Lampton park. Does any one remember the bug house cinema as it was called, but it was cheap so often went there. Sorry to say Hounslow has changed so much I havent been there for years although 2 of my children still live there, I now live near the New Forest with my second husband but do still miss those days in Hounslow. Sure there a lot of people that remember Rossis in Lampton Road.

Hi, I do remember Burtons as I used to go regularly and danced with Eric who had a brother Alec, and I remember Rossis in Lampton Road. I went to Heston Juniors and then Spring Grove Grammar School in Isleworth. I live in Ipswich now. I married in 1963 and moved to Hilllingdon from Heston and then in 1965 we moved here to escape the rat race. My name was Carrol Baldry

I love it where I am now so peaceful, used to go to Rossis a lot also all the picture houses there used to be 4 all gone now its a shame they call that progress.
My nan used to live in Alexandria road, and on a Sunday I would be sent to Rossis with a china bowl to be filled with ice cream, yum.

The dance hall was called Garganica Bishop.
I think the cinema was called the Empire in the middle of the high street and there was the dominion by the bus garage
Hi I used to work at Rossi's when I was about 15 .....went to Hounslow Heath School and then Spring Grove Central. Born in 1950 and lived in Wellington Road North until 1971 when I married and moved to Yately. Also had summer job at The biscuit factory on the Gt West Road...can still see those chocolate digestives charging down the conveyer belt ready to be packed!! Went to Ricky Tick opposite bus station...and youth club held at Hounslow Heath school down Martindale Road....lots of fond memories of Hounslow. Great place to live in the 60s.

This is bringing back memories. The Empire cinema. There were 2 cinemas at the Bell 1 near the bus garage and 1 at Hounslow West. Now there are none.
We lived in Syon Lane opposite Mcfarlane Lang's biscuit factory.Later we lived on The Beavers Estate. I went to Isleworth Grammar School. My dad drove the 657 trollebuses.
Moved away years ago but 3 years ago moved back to Isleworth.

I sat on the floor, my cousin fed me jelly squares, no sweets, rationing!!
Hello, I am doing some research on my great aunt Vicky Burke, I saw mentioned above Peter said he went dancing at Vicky Burks in Whitton, can you say anymore about this place? I know she had a dance school 'Vicky Burkes School of Dancing" Nelson Road, Twickenham, 1968, is there any connection between this and where you went dancing? if anyone has an any information or ideas on where I could find more information it would be much appreciated. Thank you, Justine
The hut was situated at the Whitton high street/Hounslow road cross roads, opposite the admiral nelson pub. I believe there are flats there now.
I cant remember, but I think it was a Saturday nite it was a general dance. There was another lady there, whos name i do not remember who helped out with the dance class's.
Vicky Burk stood for no nonsense.
Hope that little bit of info is helpful.
were did the 657 run from and to.
I certainly DO remember Rossis Ice Creams in Lampton Road.
I attended Spring Grove Grammar School at the top of Lampton Road in the late fifties and almost every evening after school a crowd of us would congregate at Rossis for ice creams.
I learnt at that early age that two 3d wavers was better value than one 6d one.
Not only did you get about 30% more ice cream, you had the additional benefit of double the number of waffers!
After leaving school I studied and qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. I feel sure my success was largely due to my early training at Rossis. 😀
