Where Are They Now? What do You Remember?
Mr Kimblin was the headmaster at Bredbury County Primary. I also remember Miss Littlebotem, Mrs Guyton, Mrs Lambert, Mrs Lydiard, Mr Hume and Mr and Mrs Garlic; have any info on those teachers please. There is a Mrs Garlic that teaches at Bredbury Green Primary but I don't think it could be the same one.
Can anyone tell me when they knocked down Bredbury County Primary School and if you know of anyone that can give me any more information on the school in the 50s and early 60s.

RE: RE: Where Are They Now? What do You Remember?
I must have been at Barrack Hill school at the same time as you, Kevin, but I am sorry to say I don't remember you. I remember all those teachers, but as I left the area some time ago, I can't say what became of them. I also remember Miss Heaton and Mrs Palmer. And the separate boy's and girl's playgrounds and those old fashioned outside toilets! Also the milk being warmed up on the old radiators in winter, which was foul, half warmed milk. I preferred it cold with the cream on top turned to ice.
I once brought a pet mouse to school when I was in Mrs Lydiard's class and she was petrified! I thought she was going to faint!
I had a 'see me' from Miss Heaton, because my handwriting on one occasion was not up to scratch. When she asked why it was not my best handwriting, I told her it was my second best handwriting!
So sad that they knocked the school down, it was a historic building worth saving, much nicer than the modern houses that stand there now.

My brother sent me this blog that might be of interest. My mum, aunts and most of my family went to a primary school nearby. It was a very old beautiful historic building. despite the goverment claiming to reduce class sizes, they shut Barrack Hill Primary School earlier this year due to "falling numbers of pupils". Quite how you can reduce class sizes by shutting schools with smaller sizes and shoving them into nearby schools is beyond me, it increases the class size of the nearby schools and everybody's education suffers. Thats not actually why they shut it at all really. That's just their story. They were acting quickly to get the historic building reduced to rubble under a destruction ball because in less than 6 months' time the building would have become listed. End of blog Knocking down the school is a sad sad loss... but once again you can't fight the all powerful Lord Money. It reduces me to a foul-mouthed scream when I think about it.
