RAF Dalcross

This Airport was, in 1951/52 when I was there, RAF Dalcross. It was here that I did my advanced flying training on Airspeed Oxfords and won my "wings".
Two members of our course were killed while flying from here. Many happy evenings were spent at the bar in the Caledonian Hotel in Inverness, and I spent Hogmenay 1952 enjoying the hospitality... [more]

Inverness-Shire memories

Forres

Robert Urquhart, as a young man, lived at 9 Mosset Street, Forres. That address may have been accommodation related to his job with the railway.
Following his marriage, to Margaret Stewart / Stuart, Bob and Maggie Urquhart  lived at Elmlea Cottage, Forres, where their first-born, Robert William Urquhart, arrived, 14th August, 1896. Elmlea Cottage has gone, possibly to make way for... [more]

Clach eile air a'chairn

After many years, I came once more to Kiltarlity and saw again the post office, where my late father and his brother grew up. Robert, the elder, became the post master and lived there until his death. Donald, my father, left at the age of 14 to join the Royal Engineers as a boy soldier of 14 years of age. After... [more]

My mother and sister and brothers lived there throughout their childhood. My mother married Norman whom at the time of their meeting was in the Fleet Air Arm in Lossiemouth. Following their marriage they... [more]

The Wards, Elgin

My grandfather, Robert (Bob) and his wife, Margaret (Maggie) Stewart/Stuart, along with their two children, lived at The Wards, Elgin, about 1900. Robert was employed at the railway station there. A third child, James Urquhart, was born at The Wards, 6th October 1900.

School

I remember growing up in Elgin (Bishopmill). All my family have passed on now, but I still visit as often as I can, each time I go there I feel a bolt of pride as I walk down the High Street, happy days.

Life in the Highlands- Glen Affric and Strathglass.

I have written about Cannich and living in Fasnakyle under the Heading of "Glen Affric". However there is so much to write about my two years living there.
It's part of this earth that is for looking at, being in, and absorbing the beauty of.
I live in British Columbia Canada now and have for many years. BUT Scotland's Highlands have... [more]

Kingussie holidays

Kingussie always was one of my favourite places as a young boy. My aunt and uncle lived in King Street, near the sawmill and I can still remember the smell of the wood shavings burning.

I loved going down to the station and watching the steam trains, especially the mail expresses as they roared through the station.... [more]
