Anchor Inn

Thurstaston Road c1955

The Anchor Inn was one of my Mum and Dad's favourite haunt.  When my husband and I were courting in 1984 we went in one evening and there was a gentleman (quite inebriated) perched on a stool, cigarette in one hand and a whisky in the other. He fell backwards, stool and all, and landed with cigarette and glass of whisky still intact clutched in his hands.

RE: RE: Anchor Inn

Being from Irby, I remember the Anchor Inn well. Dad drank there often I was not allowed in, but you could go around the side where there was a servery and buy crisps, and from there you got a glimps of inside, and you could hear the chink of glasses, people talking and laughing, sounded like lots of fun. I still have not been inside, we emigrated to Victoria in Australia in 1967. I'll have to one day make a trip over and have a proper look look inside, and have a pint or two.
