Irby Hall Farm
Irby Manor is a very old building listed in the Hundred of Wirral and was once surrounded on three sides by a moat. There are stories of an underground tunnel leading to Thurstaston so as the early occupants could escape via the River Dee should there be a need. As a kid I remember the farm was owned by "Pop Griffiths"? and later passed on to Vince McLure. I used to visit and help out in the dairy with Spud, who worked there as a farm hand. Later in time I worked as a painter and decorator in some of the rooms. I remember the place being a bit dark inside.

RE: RE: Irby Hall Farm
I am about to commence the restoration of a Vellocette motorcycle, however before starting, it is necessary to research its past history, in order to retain its original registration number. What I have turned up so far may jog a few memories.
The motorcycle, a Velocette LE model, was bought in October 1949, from Davies Brothers of Bridge Street Chester, by Mr J D Rich of Irby Hill Farm, Mill Hill Road. Does anyone recall the gentleman or his motorcycle?
Any help would be much appreciated.

RE: RE: Irby Hall Farm
I have lived in Irby since 1950 and came here at the age of 3 and remember all these memories. I live behind the Irby Club and found the tunnel when excavating for a extension - it sadly doesn't go that far now, being filled in when the Irby Club was extended, and we think when Manor Road was excavated.
