Tower Caravan Park Jaywick Sands
I remember going to Tower Caravan Park, Jaywick Sands, every year with my mom, dad, two brothers and sister, from very young till about 15 or 16 years old. I have wonderful memories like going to the Raven Club every evening and not being allowed in the 'adults room' but being able to see them through the glass partition between us and them. The arcade next to the bingo and the cafe right on the end. I also remember mom still in her dressing gown going over to the toilets and showers in the mornings, with her toiletry bag and towel, and my older brother going to fill the water thing up at the outside tap. And on one of the days we would go to Clacton Pier. The week (cos we only went for a week but it felt like we were there for a month) was always scorching hot. I remember the little shop & reception area and the beach just up a small hill. My sister and I went back about 22 years later and were very very tearful as all the memories came flooding back.

RE: RE: Tower Caravan Park, Jaywick Sands
Hi there, I've been thinking a lot about Tower Caravan Park. When I was growing up my mum had a caravan there, and me and my brother would spend a lot of fun times at Jaywick Sands. My brother died when I was 15 years old. I've been trying to find some photos of the holiday park, how it used to be, as I know it's now changed a lot. I think we had our caravan there in 1988-1994. If you know of anywhere I can get these old photos please could you contact me.
Kind regards,
Vicky

I would like to add to my memories, a girl I made friends with one of the years we went to Tower Caravan Park during the 1970s, who, as far as I can remember, went there with her grandparents who owned their caravan (I think) and who would be around 43/45-ish by now, by the name of LYNDSEY CUMMINS, from BASINGSTOKE, HANTS, with whom I stayed in contact through letters for a few years but then lost contact. If anyone should read this who knows of her or indeed Lyndsey herself reads this, please get in contact as it would be fantastic to hear from you. I have also got photos of us both with my sister too. So fingers crossed!

I went to Jaywick way back in 58. I went with Mum,Dad and my 2 younger sisters. The Everly Brothers, Chuck Berry and Duanne Eddy were on the juke box. There was a very small games arcade, mum and dad went to the club house. The chalets were built on stilts, road after road all named after british car manufacturers, now long gone. Humber, Triumph, our road was Riley Avenue. On the last night of our holiday, mum and dad were in a pub "The Never Say Die" us kids sat outside with a lemonade and packet of crisps. There was a spectacular electric sorm out to sea, sheet and forked lightening lit up the sky. We watched in awe at this fantastic sight. In the morning the newly erected flood defence barriers had been breached. The whole place was flooded, under about 3 feet of water. Now we knew why the chalets had been built on stilts. We made our way back to the train station and headed back to london. This was a lifetime ago !

I used to have a caravan at the Tower Caravan Park from about 1973 right up till 1991, till my dad died, we used to go there for all our summer holidays and weekends and our caravan number was Y14. My mum and dad were Dot and Bryan Parrott and I had 2 brothers, Graham and Barry (Badgie) and also remerber the Raven Club House, and like someone else said, children were not allowed to go into the adults' room till they were 14 I think. It was a great way of meeting all kinds of people and I have a lot of great memories of being there.

I went to a hired caravan every year with my grandparents and aunties from 1958, I was then 4 years old and went each year till about1962 when I moved to America in the USA Ar Force. I am now 56 and have got my own caravan and intend to return this month (October). I am just wondering if the water tower is there, and the ice cream van as I will be bringing my 3 grandchildren. Its a shame that the caravan park company changed the name to Martello Beach! Bring back Tower I say!!
