1861 - 1891 Hilgay, Keymer Road

Clearly not my memories! My ancestors, Frederick and Charlotte CHAMPION and their nine children lived at Hilgay, Keymer Road, Keymer which I read is now a Nursing Home. Frederick Shepherd CHAMPION was a Solicitor. He is my first cousin four times removed.

Are there any decendants of Frederick CHAMPION still in Keymer? Any Champions at all? Please, are there any photos of Hilgay? Does anyone have any knowledge of this family or the Solicitor's Practice he worked for?

would anyone have any knowledge of the Henty family in 1779. I am researching my family tree and Elizabeth Henty born in Hurstpierpoint in 1779 was my g-g-g-grandmother. I am trying to trace any knowledge of her and her family.

Hi, well I stumbled upon this purely by chance... My grandmother's family were during the early 1900s in service at Broad Hill, Keymer (now converted into flats). My grandmother met my grandfather when he was stationed in Sussex (not sure how) and they lived in Essex after their marriage. I have lived in Sussex since 1963 and during the last decade have often driven past Hilgay in Keymer. My grandfather lived in a house of the same name in Essex after he was widowed and re-married. so I often wondered whether the house in Keymer was in some way connected to his family. Now I know it wasn't...

Hi Chris, I was excited to see I had a reply to my request for information about Hilgay. I'm sorry for both of us that your Hilgay Essex house probably has no connection with the Hilgay Keymer property. I dont believe my CHAMPIONs had any connections with Essex. It's merely co-incidence in the name.

It is possible though that your grandmother's family in Keymer might have passed my Champions in the street! Broad Hill is just off the Keymer Road.
