Killiechonich
I was born at Killiechonich and lived there until I was 11. Remember walking down through the wood to Johnny and Morag McColl (a brother and sister who lived at the croft - they were from Skye). Then we would walk to Alec Fletchers for our milk - the Fletchers lived at Barnacarry. Also remember Cruachan who ran the post office - we used to go there to post letters. Eddie at the shop, where we used to get our messages. Also attended country dancing classes at Kilmore Hall.
Isobel (my sister), Anne Livingstone and myself used to attend. Remember the Christmas Parties and Fancy Dress Parties at Kilmore Hall. Attended Church and Sunday School at Kilmore church and one Christmas read the lesson there.
Jean Clark I think was our Sunday School Teacher and on one occasion I think I recall Anne Lorne Gillies taking the class. Rev Carmichael was the minister then,
he had a daughter called Nina. I think Alec Gilchrist was the session clerk and Norman Hardie was involved as well.

RE: RE: Killiechonich
Happy days. Morag and Johnnie MacColl had Balinoe Farm and we lived up the avenue at Glenfeochan. My father was chaffeur/gardener to the Murray-Allans who had the estate, and Mr. MacNiven lived at the entrance to the avenue. and was the gamekeeper.
Highlight of our spring days was taking the boat on the horse drawn low loader over from Glenfeochan to Loch Nell for the estate guests to use for their fishing. Then come the autumn we got to ride over to the loch to bring the boat back.
Every schoolday the 4 of us would walk to Kilmore School, meeting up at the main road with the MacCall family. Mr MacCall was the roadman, and I think there were 5 children, 2 girls and three boys.
At school Miss Campbell would be our sole teacher, and she lived in the adjoining schoolhouse, still to be seen half way up Kilmore Brae.
When lunchtime came, she would go next door, and come back with a large teapot. We all had pieces made by our mothers, and we would take our own cups out of our desks and Miss Campbell would walk round filling them all.
We lived at Glenfeochan from 1929 until 1939, and moved into Oban just months before war broke out.
At that time, probably around 1937/8 fire broke out after a Saturday night concert in Kilmore Hall, and destroyed it. The Hall was just alongside our playground, and as part of fund raising I remember us buying pencils marked Kilmore Hall fund from Eddie MacGillivray's store.

Interested to read your memories. I was born at Killiechonich in 1952 and left around 1962. I had a younger sister called Isobel. We went to school in Oban as we lived at the top of Loch Nell. We travelled by school car and collected Jimmy and Janet Love at Ballygown, John and Campbell McGregor at Strontollier, Anne Livingstone and her younger brother (might have been called David), Jennifer and Margaret Macaulay at Glencruitten - there were more but I cannot recall their names.
