More about this scene

The church on the left is St John's, the tower of which is topped off with a small spirelet and dates from the 13th and 14th centuries. In 1318, a Scottish raiding party attempted to destroy the tower and the people who had taken shelter there by setting it alight. The Scots failed, but for centuries afterwards traces of the burning could still be seen.

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Knaresborough

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Ye Olde Feathers Hotel, sadly no longer there. It will always have a special place in my heart.
I am seeking Jean Diane Burgoyne born on 5th September 1962 in Catterick, North Yorkshire - adopted in Knaresborough.
