Seafront Zoo
I have vague memories of a zoo on the water front at Largs. It definitely had a monkey that got loose inside the small building on occasions and would steal your scarf. There may also have been various birds. Can anyone refresh or debunk this memory? Any details would be welcome.

RE: RE: Seafront Zoo
I remember the zoo very well and the monkey, he used to piddle on people as well as steal from them. There was also a big parrot, it wasn't the friendliest of birds. The zoo was eventually closed down and it became a Red Cross centre. I have very happy memories of Largs, my gran lived there and we went to stay with her every school holiday, my sister and I are going to Largs for a week in September, neither of us have been there for over 30 years so no doubt there will have been lots of changes but we are really looking forward to the visit.

RE: RE: Seafront Zoo
There was indeed "Largs Miniature Zoo"; the monkey was, I think, a Woolly Monkey, who wore a little red jersey, but I don't remember his name.
There was a Minah Bird, called Ben, who spoke with a morose West-Coast accent. Whether he (or his owner) was genuinely depressed, he certainly sounded so when he gave vent to his stock phrase - "Ben's a baad boay"!
This would have been around 1955 or so.
