Lawshall Shop
In the 1930s my grandparents had a small general store/shop at the crossroads in Lawshall. It has long since converted back to a cottage and has an extension where the shop used to be we think. They left there before the Second World War. Does anyone remember them or have a photo? Their names were Albert Pratt and Violet (Cissie) Pratt. My mother's name was Eileen who was about 8/9 at the time.

RE: RE: Lawshall Shop
This evening I decided to go through all the google entries for Lawshall and found this. I was born in Lawshall in 1948 and lived very close to the shop. I knew it as Days shop, an all purpose store and butchers. I have a photo of the shop taken in the 1950's? but nothing earlier. Do you have any photos of the time your grandparents were there? I have just launched a web site for the village you might like to visit, it's in very early stages so not much information yet. Do contact me if you wish elizlawshall@btinternet.com. Any Lawshall information very welcome to add to the village archives. Our web site address is

RE: RE: Lawshall Shop
Fantastic! The power of the internet at work! I will send you an email with the only photo I have of Grandfather taken after he retired I think. If you come across any older residents they may remember him. He spoke with a East End of London accent and i think he could be very rude to people if prompted. (Just what you need for a shopkeeper!). I gather he bought and refurbished a couple of houses in the area and there is a house in Hartest we can trace.
The shop I believe had a verandah style of entrance and I believe it was on the end of a house.
I will make further enquiries around the family. many thanks for your reply.
