Leaving Lazonby
In 1966, the Allday family left Lazonby to immagrate to Canada. I'm Fred the eldest boy and was 16 and did not want to leave, my home and friends behind. There was a girl, Shiela Taylor who I had feelings for and she never knew. I left behind friends also, Kelvin Graham and John Nichols. If anyone knows these people please get in touch, it would be interesting to know what has happend to these old friends. I would love to return home for a holiday and to see just how much Lazonby has changed in over 41 years!

RE: RE: Leaving Lazonby
I remember your father as the man who built some of the bungalows on the road out of Lazonby to Carlisle. I also remember being at school at the same time as your brother Sydney. Sheila Taylor was a bit older than me but she also had a brother Terry and sister Susan. Their father, Maurice Taylor died last year, aged 93. Kelvin Graham, also a bit older than me, and nick-named by me and my pals as "Kekker", lived on Barton Dale at No. 1 with his mother, Eva until she died about a year or two back. Kelvin sold up and moved to Carlisle. He works as a heavy goods vehicle driver and I occasionally speak to him, when he's delivering to my employer. I can remember John Nichol but I never knew him personally. He doesn't live in Lazonby any more and I would say that he may have fallen on hard times, I've never heard of him for at least 25 years. The village you left all those years ago has changed and grown quite considerably and the green fields that you may recall from your youth are probably built on now, certainly all the fields along Scaur Lane are covered in houses, the old allotments long gone. I have picked up your message quite by random and as it's over twelve months old, I'll wait and see if you pick this up, then you could ask a few more questions if you like.
Regards,
William (Bill) Hodgson, residing at Sunnyside, Lazonby in 1966.
