A drawing board, a tee-square, a blank sheet of cartridge paper and a commission to create a lasting memorial to war: an almost impossible task. It was the architectural genius Edwin Lutyens who faced that task and created a monument of great dignity and subtle beauty, whose presence ensures that neither the horrors nor the heroism of that conflict will be forgotten.

I remember living in a terraced Street close to 'Vikky Park' as a child. We used to visit the war memorial after standing in the freezing cold watching my Dad play football... sometimes you couldn't even see the game for the fog.
