HAPPY TIMES IN FIRBECK
My memories of Firbeck are wonderful and I share them with many people. I lived there for around 8 years and my Dad was the village policeman so we lived in the then policehouse near the top of the village. We used to wait by the church gates on a sunday evening for the ice-cream man to come around on his weekly visit and it was exciting for us. Also on a Thursday evening one of the locals, Uncle Lester as he was known to everyone and one of the few people to own a car went to a local fish and chip shop in Llangold so anyone wanting something from the chippy placed their order with Uncle Lester.
I remember the Royal Family making frequent visits to Lord Scarboroughs residence and again we used to congregate by the church gates and hopefully get a wave from Prince Charles or the Duke of Edinburgh of whoever it may be making the visit.

Finding A Friend
As a child I was born in Oldcoates. I used to attend the school house in Oldcoates and always remember my teacher Ms Bridgehams, she is someone I will always remember. We used to have a roaring fire in the classroom with a big fire guard. There was a lady called Mrs Brown who I used to visit in Oldcoates, I was only 8 but then we emigrated to Australia in 1959, does anyone remember her or where she is buried so I can visit her grave? She used to wear a long brown dress and I think she had a walking stick. Someone else I remember was Father Athill from the church in Oldcoates, I usually go and visit his grave when I go back to Oldcoates just to say hi. Oldcoates has so many memories, I love going back to visit. There is something else maybe you can help me with, my grandmother in her day apparently sold a painting of my father's dog, supposedly to a public... Read more
Donny Road
I used to live opposite these shops and I can honestly say the place is just the same today as when this photo was taken.
School Road
I used to live at 5 School Road nearly 20 years ago. My mum used to work at Dianes florists on Donny Road and my Dad managed the Corner Pocket snooker club. I still visit there now as my stepmum lives on Donny Road and my Dad, I'm very sad to say, is buried at Langold cemetery.
Langold has so many memories for me from when I was little and I will always cherish them forever. I would love to visit my old house on School Road.
Good Old Days
langold was a great place to be brought up in the 70s and 80s for a young lad got some great memories dont live there anymore but will remember it with a smile.
