Monks Abbey

I used to play in the abbey in the war time as then it had an air bomb shelter, we used to think that there was a tunnel under the abbey to the cathedral.

RE: RE: Monks Abbey

We used to play around the Abbey Park and Monks Road area in the late 1970s through to the 1990s. The rumour of the tunnel to the Cathedral still existed between us and other groups of childrern playing in the area, we were all fascinated and would stare at the Abbey ruins through the railings that were up by this time, trying to spot any tell-tale signs of an entrance. Maybe it's just a childhood fascination with exploring, but now at nearly 40 years old and having never grown up I can still hold on to the thought of a tunnel there somewhere waiting to be explored :) :) I would love to know how the rumour ever got started and how long ago....
