Shropshire memories
St Margaret's School, Yeaton Peverey
I was a pupil at St Margaret's School for Girls about this time, it was run by a Miss Hainselin and Mrs Scott. A most beautiful place to be, although I can't say I learnt anything but to speak well and behave like a lady! It was taken over by a Mr Chadwick and his family. Lots of stories and history. But I was rather a wild child - say no more. The beautiful house was owned by Sir Offley Wakemen who I believe died in 1991. I do wonder what has happened to the lovely building now?
Hopton Hill
My family were from this area and my grandfather Edward Gough Jones and grandmother Rosa Jones brought up 7 children Joan, Nora, twins Eileen and Beryl, Ron (who still lived in a bungalow at the Crescent Nesscliffe until this year sadly he died a few weeks ago and was buried with his dear wife Barbara at Great Ness Church), then there was Terry (who we have not heard about for many years, we do know he went to live in Southhampton) and the baby of the family, Barbara Jean. My grandmother's father was Herbert Edward Jones and her mother was Emma Lewis Pearce, they married in 1893. My grandmother was born at Pentre Common, Kinnerley. My mother (her name was Leontine Beryl) and with her brothers and sisters went to the school near the Nesscliffe Hotel and they had to go over Nesscliffe hill every school day from the age of 5 till 14 . Shelton House
I was working at Shelton House during 1962 when it was Dr Barnados. Last week I went back for the first time since leaving the area to look for it and cannot find it. Does anyone know what happened to it?
A Long Time Ago
I lived in Codsall Wood between 1944 and 1952 I attended Albrighton Infants School between 1950 and 1952, I still have my school cap, the only names I can remember was the dinner lady a Mrs Orange and 2 other pupils Darryl Massey and George Carrington, I remember we used to go on nature walks and play soccer across the road, I seem to recall there was a factory with a soccer field attached and occupied by cows which meant dodging not the cows but their droppings, I used to go to school by taxi (Knotts in Albrighton) come to think of it I shared the taxi with Audrey & Margaret Parks next door neighbour in Codsall Wood and John Lewis who became a Solicitor in Bridgnorth, I remember sharing the taxi with them but not being at school, we used to play a game in the taxi, see who could remain standing when we went round corners, on one occasion I fell on John and he fell out ,... Tedsmore Hall
My father came from Tedsmore Hall. He was Roger Mainwaring Crees and Mainwaring is a family name. He is deceased now, but I do have a photograph of the old house. I intend to journey into Wales next week and will go and see that place although it looks as if the house has been demolished as I cannot find any reference to it. I have a couple of books written by the Rev. Thomas Bulkeley Owen, my ancestor. I do have other photographs and family history but have only just begun to unravel it all. Victoria Crees.

I am looking for my ancesters. They lived in Bausley through the 1800s. Their names are John Titley and Jane Briggs. Is there anyone that might help me fill in any missing details. Here are the details from the 1861 census:

Head of household: Richard Titley, 50, labourer, born Bauseley, Montgomeryshire
Wife: Elizabeth Titley, 37, born Bauseley, Montgomeryshire
Son: Thomas Titley, 13, labourer, 8, born Bauseley, Montgomeryshire
Son: Richard Titley, born Bauseley, Montgomeryshire
Son: John Titley, 6, born Bauseley, Montgomeryshire
Daughter: Elizabeth Titley, 3, born Bauseley, Montgomeryshire
Son: David Titley, 12 months, born Bauseley, Montgomeryshire
This information has led me to Richard Titley’s baptism on 15 Dec 1811 at Alberbury, parents John and Jane Titley. And from that I have found the marriage of John Titley and Jane Briggs on 28 Jun 1805 at Alberbury, which fits in with the birth of their first child (Mary) in 1807. The Dingle And Percy Thrower
My frandfather, Ernest Thomas Sloane, was the Editor of the Shrewsberry Chronicle for many years. During this time he was approached by someone from the BBC who asked if he had a local story of interest. Grandad mentioned how a young gardener by the name of Percy Thrower whho had designed and made The Dingle the place of beauty it is today. As Ernest Sloane was unavailable on the day, my father, Ernest Patrick Sloane, was sent to interview My Thrower, who agreed to the interview which in turn led to his fame.
