The Pier Head
A Memory of Liverpool.
Happy memories! I was born in Liverpool, 1947, but my father moved us down to Plymouth in 1952, where I'm still living. Because of all my maternal relatives still living in Liverpool we'd make frequent visits and I have fond memories of the trams, the last one of which ran in September 1957, two years after this photo. If I had a choice between bus or tram when waiting at the bus stop on Utting Avenue, I chose the tram! They all terminated at the Pier Head in those days and I can still remember the filthy, sooted 'Three Graces' and the smell of the River Mersey. All cleaned up now! I took my own kids back there a few years ago to see where dad was born and raised.
