Mid Glamorgan memories
Brecon Stores 1916
My Great Grandfather Roger Davies retired from the army in 1916. He ran Brecon Stores in Pencoed with his wife Minnie. Brecon Stores was a general store. If anyone has any further information would love to hear from you.
T N Thomas
I worked at the toy factory, T N Thomas. I could not understand why they said 'Made in England' when we were in Bridgend in Wales! It was hard on our hands working there, trimming the plastics, but we had some good friends and some laughs. My husband Stan was at General Stampers, they did Government work.

My Childhood Days Brynna Boy
8 Southall Street /16 Tan-y-Bryn. We, the Brynna Boys, used to run to school, Mr & Mrs Davies Head Master and thei two daughters, strict and friendly, firm and kind. I can only describe those happy days, Coronation year, getting our school free mug, watching on a black and white12 inch telly crammed into class. Those days long gone but memories will never die. I have walked over every inch of the mountains, I have lived as Tarzan in Brynna Woods, I learned to swim down the river ducker and caught my first trout. I helped gather the harvest on all farms around. Held a horse at the Eagle pub on hunting days. Played snooker in Geeks, freezing cold, Aunty Bess's Fish and Chips shop, and Bessie Price for Gobstopper sweets and cakes, food for chickens, pigeons, goldfish, horses, cows you name it, Walt and Bessie Had everything at the General Stores. The Keelings, 1940 Evacuees
My sister, Joy, elder brother, Richard and myself, John Keeling, were evacuated to Llanharan in June 1940. After a short time Richard and myself were placed with a lovely old lady at 12 Seymour Avenue, Mrs Surridge. I do believe that Joy was billeted with the local Fish and Chip shop. Since then I have visited twice, the first time with my family, wife and two sons, but for some reason or other I just looked around and didn't talk to anybody. The second time was in the early 1990s. My wife attended a TWG meeting in Cardiff and I came to Llanharan. I drove up to Seymour Ave and saw a man coming out of No 4 or 5, he looked at me and just said "Richard", well, after some 50 odd years that was amazing. Pencoed
I lived at the Britannia Hotel with my mother and father, two sisters and a brother. I went to Pencoed School, married at Pencoed Church. I was one of the first members of the youth club run in the room at the back of Saleum Chapel, what a wonderful time that was. I was the first Carnival Queen after the war years,who remembers that? Who remembers the drama group we were in at the club? We won the eisteddford one year with the three act drama 'Check to the King of France'.
Years Gone By 1960s - 1970s Part 1
Lynette Carter (nee) Evans I was born in Glossip Terrace Hospital Splott Cardiff. My family and I first moved to Heol Cynllan Road, Llanharan when I was just over 2 years old. We lived with my Aunty Fanny and Uncle di. At number 1 Heol Cynllan lived my Aunty and Uncle, Gino Serenti, Ann Serenti along with my cousins Sandra, Paul and Mark Serenti. I remember running the short distance down the street to see them. My Aunty Ann was raised in Llanharan, her surname was Payne, along with her brothers Richard Payne, Lemual Payne, and youngest sister Linda Payne, their parent’s; my grandparents were Richard Payne, and Maureen Payne. Aunty Ann lived in Llanharan her entire life. I think it was sometime during the late 1940’s my grandmother Maureen moved to Cardiff with my Polish step grandfather John Pobium, they went on to have my other uncles and aunties’, Janice Pobium, Twins Sonia and Sandra Pobium, Peter Payne, and Mark Pobium.
