Talycoppa Farm

My mamgu (granny) owned the butcher's shop on Penial Green Road and then my Auntie Betty took it over, the green tin shed by the railway oppposite what is the Chinese and the carpet shop. My mamgi and dagi (grandad) also had Talycoppa Farm which is now the housing estate and school. My mam and her sisters and brother were all brought up there. I lived there till I was 3. I look at Llansamlet as having 100 people and I'm related to 99. Please if anyone remembers my mamgi or my mam, Molly, or her sisters - Nancy, Betty, Olive - or their brother, Dan, let me know.

RE: RE: Talycoppa Farm

I well remember the "Meat Shop" which was adjacent to Gittings Fish Shop back then (1950 's). Evan Roberts was the brother of my uncle Geraldis. his children; Molly, Dan & Olive I remember well. Wasn't there another sister, Nancy? I lived in Bethel Road near the junction with Frederick Place Road. My mother, Margaret and Geraldis' wife Kate were sisters. I went to school with Olive Roberts and remember the farm before it became a housing estate. Used to walk up the lane past the farmhouse to the "Summer House". Dan used to deliver produce in his van I recall. I used to play with Geraldis and Kate's children, my cousins Mair, Tommy, Margaret, Dorothy Anne and Malcolm. i still see Margaret and Dorothy when I viist Swansea. Living in the Cayman Islands now but return to Swansea regularly. Dorothy and Margaret live in Birchgrove and I am sure would love to link up with you. Family ties are strong.

RE: RE: Talycoppa Farm

I remember Betty the Butchers very, very well. My Mum Lydia and Betty and Mary were great friends (& Mary who worked in the shop too). I was born in 13 Bridge Terrace which then became 93 Peniel Green Road and only moved out when I married Steven English of 32 Peniel Green Road in 1975. We moved up to Lon Brynawel and then emigrated to Australia. Although I now live in Australia and have done for over 30 years, Llansamlet will always be home to me. Cosy chats and lots of laughs with Bet in that old tin shed - hot in summer and freezing in the winter. And the meat sold there was always sensational. I have photos of when they took down the old shed - what a sad day that was. Lots of memories were in that lovely cosy tin shed. No-one ever passed by without popping in for a chat - can't say a quick chat coz it never turned out to be a quick one!! And lots of laughs with George the Baker who always had a joke for you!!!
