I also visited Fairyglen in the 50's. My grandmother was Catherine Jenkins (nee Davies) and my father John Jenkins . It was a magical place for a child to visit & I have lots of happy memories of playing there on family visits.
I love surfing the net and visit places that I knew as a child ...what a lovely surprise to find relations of mine .My grandmother was Sarah ...she was sister to Cathetine Jenkins and Jane who was the mother of Arthur .I am older than you but spent holidays during the war in Fairy Glen and as a teenager with Lynn at Fulham Palace Road ..also stayed with Nancy in Kilburn .
I came from Gwaun cae Gurwen ..spent time with Catherine at Llwyncelin road and also when she lived with Natalie next to Cresci's ice cream parlour .
I could go on for hours ...
This is a happy internet find. I have many wonderful memories of staying with Arthur 's family at Fairy Glen in the 1960's with my parents, when my sister and I went pony-trekking. I last visited, just after my son was born in 1991. I wanted my new family to meet the people at the happiest place I had ever been,Llanwrtyd Wells at Mrs Jones, butchers. The last time I stayed there must have been 1978 or 9 with an American girl . It was when Mrs Jones father was very ill, but Arthur was still alive. I often wonder how the girls are and would love to get in touch with Jen or her sister. Llanwrtyd is in the most beautiful area in Britain and the people there were the kindest. Love of family, community and of their animals touched us all and washed away our urban cares. I wish community's pony trekking association was still a going concern, but lambing no longer requires ponies and the farmers don't keep ponies a they used to.
My wife & I have owned Fairy Glen for the last 6 years, after Eileen Jones passed away, we found a framed picture of a first world war soldier and wondered if he might be related to Eileen, ie. father, possibly ?, does anyone have any ideas.
