Proud To Live In Llwynypia

A Memory of Llwynypia.

I was born in 1963 in Glyncornel Hospital, LLwynypia to Gwyn and Christine Jones. My parents set up home in what was called apartments in Treherbert until I was 3 then we moved to Brynivor, Llwynypia to look after my gran who was ill. I remember going to Ynyscynon Nursery where I met friends, some of which I have made contact again through FB and have been able to reminisce of good times, times when the nursery had a nativity and I was cast as an angel and we would prance around the tables. Then I attended Pontrhondda School which I loved every minute of. Lessons were fun, needlepoint being my favourite. I attended Salem chapel in Salem terrace, was christened there. I remember the fousty smell and can still picture the giant pipes of the organ. Sadly burnt down a few years ago and a new modern chapel stands in its place. Loved where I lived, neighbours were great though they were quick to tell your parents if you played up. I remember going behind the Ivor Heal pub and pinching the empty bottles then taking them back through the front door to get money back on them. I loved playing on the railway platform and hiding in the monkey tree there, spying on passengers getting on and off train before going over the lake to skim stones and dangle over the storm drain.
Years passed and through marriage I moved to Treorchy but I missed Llwynypia and always wanted to go back. I now have my wish as I am back in my Family home and I feel so contented. Not a lot has changed only faces have and I can still walk over the lake, but stay away from the storm drain.
Best place ever......

My dad was raised in no 11, opposite the OAP home at the top of the hill. Loved going there to visit grandparents. I was born in 65 in Llwynypia hospital. I remember Mr Chilcott at no 10.
