A Memory of Barking.

Id love to here more about the Nissan Huts in Barking Park, my late husband Allan Longden had so many happy memories of his childhood days there, swimming in the lake and the lido. Can anyone tell me wherebouts the huts were located.

Hi Carole,
Yeas he did Colin was a year younger than Allan and John was 7 years older and sister Sandra. I beleave they moved to Thames View after the huts but didnt stay there long and moved to Whiting Avenue Barking. Hi Sue the nissen huts were built between the swimming pool and I think it was Barking Abbey school. We lived there for about 7years we then moved to Greatfields rd then to Thames view Curzon crescent .Do you know where Allan lived on Thames View.We missed living in the park wherever we went we would always see someone we knew because we all lived so close. We had so much we could do there was the swimming pool the train the stream we used to fish in over the back of the park the swing yard and the paddling pool. The bowling green and tennis courts were for adults. The rowing boats me and my sister were often barred for a week because we never came in when he called us!Carole Jordan Lloyd.

Hi Sue,
I lived in the Nissen huts and went to school and Army cadets with Allan. I knew him up until I left Park Modern Secondary school in 1963. When we moved out of the huts we went to Webber house, North St. Next to Whiting Ave. Mike Maynard
Marian Martell, Hiya .... your parents must have known my grandparents, the Hatfields .... grandad lived at 37 Bennington Avenuue (his surname was then Hatfull ... along story there!) and moved to Jackson Road when the houses were built there .... not sure of the year but before 1924 as my Dear Dad was born in no. 10 Jackson Road in February, 1924.
