Nostalgic memories of Brierfield's local history

Share your own memories of Brierfield and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

My name was Jean Wignall. I married Peter Tunstill (who was also at NGS ) in 1970. In January 1989, I attended a 21-year Nelson Grammar School reunion at the Keirby Hotel in Burnley. I believe that the event was organised by David Hird; I remember that Barbara Watson spoke and the event was also attended by some of the teachers. My two schoolfriends were Susan Wilkinson and June Thompson. ...see more

I was born at 63 Hargreaves Street in Nelson on the 5th March 1961. I went to Whitefield Infants School and then to Lomeshaye School. I have lots of memories about Nelson. We moved to Rochdale just after I was 11, I think. My Dad got a teaching job so we moved near to where the school was.
I moved to Sackville Street in Brierfield when I was 2, lived there till I was 12 then we moved to Walter Street, Brierfield till I got married at 20, then I went to live on Coronation Roa, Brierfield and now I'm back on Sackville Street and been here for 21 years, I've never lived anywhere else but Brierfield, the same as my husband.
My parents lived in Sackville Street and our home caught fire, destroying everything. We lived there from my being five to thirty. My sister is called Susan and lives in Burnley. Anyone that remembers me please contact me, I have some lovely memories of living there. It would be amazing to meet up for coffee and a natter, anyone that remembers me will know my name so hurry and e mail me...
