Byfleet Village

A Memory of Byfleet.

I also remember your father. It happens that when he joined his father as the local doctor I was his first baby case when he joined the practice. Before the 2nd world war Clockhouse was owned by someone who trained police dogs. Mundays was the name of the café next door to Elkins. Boutells was the name of the undertakers next to the village hall. Next to Lloyds bank was one of the 3 bakers in the village the other 2 were Margarets next to Rannies the chemist which was adjacent to John Eighteens (fish shop) and Bury's (later Binfield Bakery) on the corner of Binfield Bakery). Then a sweet shop followed by a double fronted greengrocers called Hobbs. In what is now known as Vanners Parade was the Post Office known as Rowleys, then a hoarding and finally Chuters the newsagents and then Vanners on the corner of Brewery Lane. Next to the garage opposite was an orchard with ducks, geese and chickens and a glass cage with puppies for sale, then Derisley's barn and finally Digby's. I have many more memories, too numerous to put to print.
