More about this scene

This wonderfully atmospheric pub, now an Everards house, is photographed before the universal advent of lager and 'Kids Welcome'. Its white- painted stone under a thatched roof is pierced by Norfolk sashed windows with extremely meagre- looking timber lintels. It is easy to imagine the Cottesmore hounds in front of the building. Established at Exton in 1732, the Cottesmore (one of England's premier hunts) moved to the village in 1740, having been bought by Sir William Lowther. Pressure groups may soon consign this country tradition to the history books.
