T A Centre Vicarage Lane
A Memory of East Ham.
My dad was in the army and we left Nairobi in Kenya and went to live at the TA Centre on Vicarage Lane in East Ham. I went to Burges Manor School for girls and next door was Thomas Lethaby the School for boys. One of my memories is going up to the Royal Albert Docks and going across on the ferry to Woolwich, or walking through the tunnel. In them days I was Grace Shipley - does anyone remember me? I left school and East Ham in 1968 aged 16. I had a Saturday job in Woolworths on the High Street.

I am thinking OMG is that really you?
I went to South East Ham Secondary School for Boys, soon merged with Brampton School.
If you are who I think you are, you went out with a friend of mine from our school, his name was Les. He looked a bit like Herman of Hermans Hermits(If you remember that group.)
Do you remember coming to my house on the corner of Telham Road because I was ill and you wanted to see how I was. Mick Shann is the name.
At the time I SO wanted to ask you out but didn't want to upset my pal and waited in the wings hoping, then, all of a sudden you were gone and I never knew where.
Time has obviously moved on and I am happily married and we celebrated our 41st the Monday just gone.
Happy memories of East Ham, of which you are one, but glad to have moved from that area(Barnet now) as it is now not recognisable from our time.
Such a long time ago......
Hope life has treated you well.
Mick
You certainly wont remember me although i was at Burgess Manor the same time as you. You were not in my class but you were very good friends with someone i knew very well, Jean Mason?
I remember her saying that you had travelled about a lot. Also that you were very good friends with the music teacher we had at the time. Can't remember her name but she had black hair parted in the middle, young ,played a Guitar. Think Jean said you kept in touch with this teacher after you left school. Jean married and eventually moved to Witham in Essex. My name back then was Susan Wiles and i married and now live in Essex. Of course if i've got the wrong Grace this will all be rubbish to you. Best Wishes Susan
