The Palace
A Memory of Eltham.
Until I was 10 years old we lived in Kingsground. From a rear window, one looked across "the bull's field" to the palace. I LOVE it!! At Eltham C of E Primary School we were educated in Eltham's history, NOW I think I know everything there is to know about all of it, from the arrival of the Saxons to William, to his gift of Kent to brother-in-law, Bishop Odo, and Odo's gifting it to Haimo. I remember the restoration from rot and beetle, the Coroboree celebrations in 1953 when, as a Girl Guide, we were allowed to explore. I discovered the "dungeons" in the wall of the moat [4x4x4feet] and how prisoners drowned when the moat flooded,etc.....
Best wishes,
Dorothy Brooks.
