Those Were The Days!

A Memory of Folkestone.

I was at secretarial college in Folkestone in the mid sixties and "The Old High Street" was my stamping ground, along with "Tofts". I remember Archie and Andy who owned the Acropolis at the top on the left and of course Mick who owned "Micks" or "El Torero" at the bottom on the right. Names which come to mind are, in no particular order :) Bruno and Harry B, Geoff C, Micky O and many others ... my word : a lot of water under a lot of bridges since then.

Mick is my brother in law! He will love that he is remembered as he is not in good health!
Hi Marina ... six years on and I have just seen your reply to my 2010 entry. Is Mick still with us. I remember him and Bruno and the others fondly. I wonder if he remembers Mr and my friend Gill.
I spent the summer of 1963 at Folkestone. I am Turkish, and was sent to a language school to learn English. I remember Tofts, Torrero and it’s owner Mike. When I first got there, I thought I landed in heaven. The town was full of French girls and, for some reason, also Swedish girls. I dare say, I probably learnt more Swedish than English.
