I was born in Bolton on Dearne in 1948; my grandfather was Guy Lewis the Goldthorpe chemist whose shop was in Doncaster Road. My grandparents lived in Market Street (number 5) Has anyone a photograph that might show the chemists shop? My grandfather retired about 1963. David Lewis
Does anyone have a photograph of the part of the main road where Mrs.Booth's shop was situated? Or perhaps the garage belonging to Mr. Booth? I think the shop was either between the Police Station and Sharp's fish and chip shop or on the row beyond the school, going towards where Sugdens was near the Zebra crossing. Although I've spent most of my life living in Bolton-upon-Dearne I was born in Goldthorpe at number 9 Orchard Street. I had 3 brothers and 1 sister. I remember Little Harold (as they called him) who had a stall on the market. Another contributer remembers Tommy Hartley who had the shop on the bend of High Street. Reg died recently in New Zealand where he lived since 1950's He was a child miner (14) in 1944 and I would like to collect a pit check or information of that time. He had fond memories of his life in Goldthorpe, he lived in Goldthorpe Road with his 7 other siblings. We visited there during the 1960's for the first time and continued to visit up to the 2000's when Reg developed Parkinsons. ...see more
