More From An Ex Sankey Lad 1963

A Memory of Great Sankey.

I have lived in Australia for the past 33 years, only returning to the UK a couple of times. And because the family have moved I have never had the opportunity to return to my original stomping ground, until last May, when my brother Chris and I went on a nostalgia tour.

I never liked the area. Referring to Warrington as "God's own private toilet." However, I was absolutely taken aback when we arrived there. What I remember was a grimy industrial area with no redeeming features whatsoever. And what I saw in May was a refurbished and beautified area which I thought outstanding in every possible way. I could quite easily have moved back and been very happy.

I do have to add though, that It had been over fifty years since Chris and I had returned. What I really found interesting was what had changed, a lot. But what I found even more interesting was what had not changed, also a lot.

C'mon guys add some of your thoughts and stories. I'd like to read them too!

G'day Steve, I have a photo of you, me and a couple of others at the front of 37 Park Road. We moved in 1963 to Northwich. I often think fondly of Gt. Sankey and old friends, which does include you Honest!!. Our old Primary School has closed, I believe. In fact it was in "close down" mode when Chris and I visited. Please write back Steve. Ian
