Orchard Ave

A Memory of Hackbridge.

I moved from Wandsworth to Orchard Ave in Hackbridge in about 1979/80 (my parents still live there). It was a bit strange for me moving from a high-rise flat to a house with a garden. Behind the house was the 'Rec' and mullards factory which is now a school and houses. I attended Hackbridge school and if i remember rightly my first teacher was Mrs Bright. After leaving in 1983 i attended Carshalton High School For Boys. Hackbridge was a great place to live and remember playing with Lee-Ann, Jason, Steven and a few others in the Rec and the bon-fires we all enjoyed on Bon-fire night. I can also remember playing over the sewage farm with my best friend Steven Skinner. Would love to know where Steven is now.

Hi Wayne god I was shocked to read this and remembering all the bonfires over the rec collecting all the wood and anything that no one wanted to build the fire obviously well before the health and safety days. I haven't seen Steve for few years but I know he is on Facebook , I've recently been in contact with Ronnie Westbrook , Donna Prentice and Wayne Prentice. Lots of good memories. Hope your keeping well. Would be good to stay intouch.

How funny- I came across this trying to look up the history or the old abandoned shop on New Road. Came across this site and got reading, only to see my mum and uncles names :-). Donna Prentice and Wayne prentice.

Does anyone know what the shop was? I think I remember my nan telling me it was a newsagents? She sadly suddenly died last November so unable to ask, being in Hackbridge for 42 years she would have defiantly know.

Does anyone here remember it? Why it shut? How comes nothing has ever been done to it?

Thanks :-)
