Hounslow Heath

A Memory of Hounslow.

I have just been reading through some of the newer memories after not being on this site for quite a while, but a comment about Hounslow Heath reminded me of the times we went to the Heath when my dad was going through a period of being interested in making and flying model airplanes. This was not specifically in 1955 but during the 50s as a whole. I also remember one day as we drove off the Staines Road onto the heath we went suddenly from pouring rain to no rain at all. My dad pointed out to us the rain we could see falling way off in the distance across the heath and the rain still falling behind us on the Staines Road - it seemed as if the whole heath itself was in a little pocket of dryness! I do have vague memories of attending a fair or two on there, probably as a younger child with my parents in attendance. I also remember running about on the uneven ground with little hillocks of rough grass and weeds. Where there odd patches of old concrete as well? Maybe old foundations of army huts from the war but my memory is a bit vague about that.

Did you go to Spring Grove Central School at all. Your name rings a bell. I was June Warne then.
