Langdown Road Hythe

A Memory of Hythe.

Although I was born at 160 Langdown Road in 1956 (Peckham), my first memory is in 1961 when I first went to school. The neighbours I remember are the Knapp, McGill, Hosey, Black, West, Anzak, Flood, Dyer, Ham, Vaughan, Cooper, Broomfield, Smith and Cane.

Oh wow. I lived at 160 langdown road as well.
Moved there I think 1975.
The hosey's lived opposite. The anszak next door.
Great memories of that place
Hi, I'm interested in the history langdown road area, particularly number 161 as I now own it. I would really love to know about previous residents who lived there and what the whole area was like to live in, in the past. I'd love to hear any information or stories that people may have
I lived at 162 Langdown Rd. From 1952 till 1961, in between the Peckham's and the Anzaks. The picture to the right is of Langdown RD, not Landown. When it snowed we would taboggan down that hill.
Neighbours I recall were Thomas's who had a son Chris who was a friend. They lived tow doors from Anzak's and another Thomas family on the other side of Peckham's who had a son Bobby who was younger than me. I was also friendly with David Peckham until he went away to join the airforce after school I believe.
We moved in when the house was brand new and the road was not quite paved, Phil Peckham next door was the general foreman for the estate and built boats for a hobby. Most of the other neighbours worked for Esso. In between Anzak's and Thomas's was a family who received frequent visits from film star Peter Cushing.
Clause Anzak was a german POW who decided to stay in England after the war. He had been a tailor in Germany before the war.
That's all that comes to mind right now, but Langdown Rd. was great place to grow up
I lived at 101 Langdown Road with my Mum and Dad and sister, Susan. My Dad worked at Esso, of course and my understanding is that the Langdown Estate was built to cater for the influx of workers at Fawley. Neighbours were the Craggs twins, Angela ?, Paul and Sharon Davis and a lovely older couple called Grey. I remember Ronnie Laine who became a fantastic musician. There seemed to be a lot more open space around the estate then. Our house backed onto a stream that could be crossed by creeping across a big pipe and getting into the fields beyond.
Just round the corner from 101 was a large expanse where I saw a Forest pony giving birth.
It was a great place to grow up and there were loads of kids to ramble around with. We moved on to live in Dibden Purlieu when I was 7 so that must have been around 1964/5.
We visit Hythe quite often and usually drive past 160. Lots of good memories especially when there were proper winters with loads of snow! Happy cold days with no central heating and Jack Frost on the windows. 😁
Oh wow this is amazing... can anyone tell me about the owners of 152 Langdown road please.. I'm the current tenant and I heard a lady named Maureen lived here with her son called Ian, for many years.
I found some bits of history and would love to know more
