Remember Tylerscroft 1957 To 1961

A Memory of Kingsbury.

I lived in Church Lane, Kingsbury at Elvin Court and went to Tylerscroft after leaving Fryent infant and junior school. I have very fond memories of Tylers as we called it back in them days. I remember Mr Perkins Music, he built his own music system for the school and I always found his lessons very infomative of which I learned at lot from. Also Mr King(science) strict but a good teacher if you stayed on the right side of him, experiments were always fun. Mr Parker (gardening) and the school pond near the bike sheds. Mr Kadish (art), again a good teacher of which I was able to draw as a hobby, but no longer. Mr Curtis, good ole Mr Curtis, ex Royal Navy - he was my geography teacher but for some reason if you mentioned the war at sea, most of the lesson was about that and not much geography (but we didn't always get away with it at each lesson). There was Mr Simmons and Mr Walker both PT and Sports. Mr Walker was the strict one - did you ever have the climbing rope end across your backside? I enjoyed the whole experiance and best lessons for me were metal and woodwork which helped put me on the right road for starting work. Most of all I was in the school teams for Cricket, Rugby, Basketball and Football. Happy days never to be forgotton, I could go on and on. It was quite handy having the girls school next door, also remember that boy's? Tylers also had the best school teams in the county and had many winning years, there was no school to touch us at the time. Tylers was also known as being a very advanced school for the years with all the facilities it had. The school moto, if I am correct, was To Persevere. It would be great if we could have our yesterdays back. I moved out of Kingsbury many years ago in my early 20's I now live in Gloucester but I will never forget Kingsbury and surounding area's so many memories, so many happy days, good times and friends who have all now moved on doing their own thing.
