Mr Mrs Robbins Fish Chips Shop

A Memory of Leytonstone.

I remember my childhood at Browning Road where we lived opposite the Robbins family who owned the fish and chips shop. I used to help cutting the chips and skinning the skate. They had two daughters, Audrey and Muriel. Murial was my age and I had a crush on her up until I left school. I was part of what we called "Browning Road Gang".

Bryan was my brother and sadly died this year. One of the last great thrills he had was the street party in Browning Road attended by some dignitaries who were delighted to present him with a plaque to commemorate the event. He was one of the oldest remaining local;s who grew up in Browning Road. I was at home in Adelaide so could not be there..

Mr & Mrs Robbins fish shop was a very popular local place and I grew up with the smell of the cooking drifting into my bedroom window. Our house at No. 3 was directly opposite.
