Growing Up In Low Valley

A Memory of Low Valley.

I am Pam Craddock nee Waller. I grew up in the 1950s and 1960s in Low Valley.

My father Ernest worked at Darfield Main Colliery until the 1980s when he took early retirement and he and my mother Edna came to live here in Ripon to be near to me.

We lived next to St Matthews church where my mother went to school during then 1920s. I myself have many happy memories of being involved in the church myself. I was a Sunday School teacher and enjoyed working with some great children.

We lived in a great little village and remember the little shop run by Mr and Mrs Amos. We could get everything there.

My grandparents Ellen and Emmanuel Bishop known as Nelly and Manny lived down the road in Pitt Street to whom I was very close. Yes even after 48 years away I still look back with fondness

My Grandma and Grandad, Violet and Ambrose Gibbs, lived in Pitt Street and were good friends of the Bishops.
Pam Waller; did you go to Wath Grammar School and teach at St. Matthew's Sunday school?
Did you live next door to Ford's, the plumber?
It is nice to hear from you David yes I am the same Pam Waller. I also remember your older sister Jean. We used to go to the cinema in Wombwell together. I also knew the Fords I think Sylvia will be 70 this year. Incredible the passing of the years! I googled Low Valley recently and it has really changed.
I remember Graham Gibbs, who was a good footballer. He was a bit older than me.
