Grew Up In Monkleigh

A Memory of Monkleigh.

I grew up in Monkleigh and went to school there in our one room school. My teacher was Mrs Hill. Punishment was called "THIMBLE PIE" a rap on the head with a thimble on her finger. I apprenticed with a Mr BALE in the village garage, which doubled as our local post office. I finished an apprenticeship in 1957. Hills buses was the only transportation to BIDEFORD for any needs. We had a local store with service through a small window by a lady called Mrs Blight, who in later years moved to Bideford and her husband and son went in to the automobile business. I could go on for ever as this is still my home, although I lived in Canada for most of my adult life. All my Family has graves in Monkleigh cemetery and my wishes are expressed to have my ashes flown home to be with them. Anyone wishing to know more about the history of my life can Email me. Love you all Howard Daniel. { A strong Family name in Monkleigh Devon}
