Yes,I remember him swooping round the corridors of the school with his black cloak flying as he went. From that,he also acquired the name "Batman" understandably so!
He wrote a book about how to arrange libraries. Tried to buy it but was outbid. Did not think anyone else would be interested lol
wee bud got an OBE for his services to libraries.his 2ic was big jim Crawford, miss mathie was my geog teacher, she had sleepin sickness they reckoned.would start writin on the blackboard,an the whole class was leanin at a 45 degree angle copyin what she was writin.woodwork teachers were bailey, thompson and I think osbourne whom we called cueball
I was at the central,1957-60,wee broon and sneddon(bluenose) maths, sherry pt,was great, pigs n bulls in the playground, escaping from the slaughter hoose in mason lane, smokers union behind the dunnies, miss mathie rollin down the stairs wrapped up in her bat cape, john grant, brisbane, since 1968
I left in about 57. I well remember Miss Mathie. The whole class used to lean over to be able to read what she was writing on the board. However, her aim when throwing the blackboard eraser was phenominal to say the least. Mr Sneddon !- was he the one with the bulbous pitted nose?. Never liked him. He gave me 6 of the tawse very often, and often for nothing. At dinner time we used to go round the back of the shop on (i think airbles rd) for our smokes. the shop used to sell singles or pack of 2 woodbines. I think Bailey was also a maths teacher. I wont say what he used to try to get up to in the stationery cupboard. He was a total pig. Hated him. Those bat capes could be quite intimidating. Did not know we bud had got an OBE for services to Libraries. I must say I quite liked Mr Crawford. He could be tough, but he was generally nice. What was the name of the brother and sister teachers? The brother taught art, He was very handsome, and I had a great big crush on him. Might have been named Sorley. Hope Brisbane has been good to you. I moved to Coventry in England in 1960. Went back regularly till all my immediate family deceased. Not been back for 3 years. Last time I was up there, the walk along the Clyde has been destroyed, by a grey funfair sort of stuff. I was really disappointed, as we used to regularly walk along there when it was beautiful. Ah well the world goes on!!!
Was at "The Central" around this time. Tech teachers were ,Baillie,Robertson,Streford,Osbourne (big satch) and "wee " Harry Gold. Art teachers in my time were Sloss and Henry. PT teachers were,Sherry,Ferguson,(Bomba) Miss Edwards, Miss McCuish. As far as the Bulls and pigs were concerned I got chased lot the playground, carrying ma bike, up West Hamilton street, intae Watson Street ,And then up Brandon St. Lucky for me the bull took a left turn and was eventually shot in Mellville Drive. Keep the memories coming.
Peter.
