Thames Board Mills
A Memory of Purfleet.
I worked at TBM from 1949 until 1991. I started as a laboratory assisstant and became asst chief chemist. I was very involved with building of No 11 machine and then after I became Marketing manager for the opening of our Workington mill. Finally I was in charge of Sales and Marketing for Purfleet after we had to close Warrington and South Mill.
I retired in 1991 andfor the past 23 years have lived on Long Island New York.

Henry was my grandfather. Tony married Dorothy in 1955 & they raised their 2 daughters in Sydney, Australia. Henry & his wife Winifred migrated to Australia in 1953. I would love to know whether you knew any of them. Sadly all are now deceased.
How is life on Long Island? Very different from Essex I imagine.
Kind regards,
Margaret Ferguson (née Thomas)
Thanks for your interest. The names you mention do not ring a bell I'm afraid. What relationship did they have to Thames Board?

My name is Alan gosling and I am the Founder and Chairman of the Purfleet Heritage and Military Centre in Centurion Way, Purfleet. RM19 1ZZ.
In 2004 TBM closed its gate for the final time and we were asked if we could take on most of the archives of the Company. As we are a Heritage Centre the answer was yes. So if you are interested in TBMs past weather it be that you worked there, had family or friends that worked there we have photos, personal artifacts, Thames Topics and plenty more. It even includes the chandelier from the entrance hall to the main office. Its a unique collection. for more information my email is argos44@icloud.com
